Our Experiences of The Restaurant

Our experience of Los Tres Burritos had four parts: contrast, repetition, alignment, and proximity. We found ways to improve Los Tres Burritos restaurant.
For the contrast, we found the inside color scheme (turquois) did not fit with the restaurant’s Mexican culture. Outside, it has a red color scheme. As a team, we decided a switch to red inside would be a better match for this restaurant. Mexican culture is known for bright colors. Red is a color of celebration. It is one main color on the Mexican flag. Red would be a better match for Los Tres Burritos restaurant.
The lack of seating options showed repetition at Los Tres Burritos. There were a few tables and lots of open, unused space. Our team decided to offer a variety of seating choices. We picked high-top tables, booths, and some smaller tables. The customers would have a choice for seating and waiting. Our improvements would provide more room to eat and make it easier for customers to get around the restaurant.
Alignment is off, in the restaurant, now. The drink counter does not align with the serving counter. Our improved design allows better flow for customers in the restaurant.
The proximity of items to each other and to customers seemed too cluttered. The counter had many little items that distract customers from seeing their food. Our new design will have a better flow. Drinks will be in one place, with all the necessary parts (ice, cups, lids). Orders and food pick-up will be moved next to the drink machine to make better proximity for the customers’ use.
These improvements will provide customers with a better experience at Los Tres Burritos.

Reflection on Procedural Rhetoric Project

Procedural Rhetoric Project
The Procedural Rhetoric Project was so beneficial for me. Some of the things that I learned from this project were that some of the audience might have no clue about the subject. So, the presenter should be clear and try not use acronyms (example: NIU). I can relate to this, as I was in a presentation and the speaker used many acronyms. I was interested to know what each one stood for.  Therefore, I googled them. A presentation should not over-use acronyms because listeners cannot understand what is being said.  Also, speaker can make the audience engage with the presentation better, by asking questions. When a speaker asks questions, it makes me think about the topic and I become more interested in what the speaker is talking about. Finally, a presentation must be well-organized, with a clear structure. That way, the audience knows what to anticipate and may be able to anticipate the direction of the speaker’s argument. This helps the audience to think as they listen, also. My audiences will benefit more from my presentations if I use clear, understandable language and include interesting questions.

Campus Signage Project

Campus Signage Project

When we are starting the campus signage project I was looking for a sign around campus. While am waiting in line to order a coffee from Sandella’s Flatbread CafĂ© I saw a sing and I choose it for this project.

2\3 of the sign has printed and 1\3 is ingredients.
The things that need to be improved in this sign are:
I choose a colorful picture of food as a background for the new sign. Then, I make the restaurant name bigger. Next, added location, phone business hours, huskies logo.

Working in this project makes me realize that small things in sign designing can give other meaning to the sign. Also, I have learned a lot of things while working on this project. This is my first time I redesign a sign and I am impressed with the final design.

Exercise 1

Exercise 1
When studying the home page for Northern Illinois University, I found that clarity, accessibility, and professional appearance are met. For clarity, the home page is clear and straightforward. For accessibility, is it very easy on the home page to get where you want to go. For example, there are many links to pick form beside quick links. For the professional appearance, the home page looks very cool and modern. I liked that they are using a drone to show the campus.

Pandora's Promise Reflection

Pandora's Promise Reflection
Pandora's Promise, an eye-opening documentary, interviews environmentalists and experts. They discuss how and why they changed their minds from being against nuclear power to being in favor of it. After watching this documentary, I immediately changed my mind about nuclear power. I was surprised when I learned that one pound of uranium is equivalent to about 5,000 barrels of oil when the energy is released. I was shocked when Gwyeth Craven, author of Power to Save the World, said “If you add up all fossil fuel combustion in the United States, just from power plants, the fine particulates alone kill 13,000 people a year. Worldwide 3 million people die a year just from air pollution from fossil fuel plants.” There has not been a single death from the operation of commercial nuclear reactors in the United States. After watching this documentary, I came to realize that media is strongly affecting people’s decisions about nuclear power, who have little information about the subject. Pandora's Promise contains information that would be useful to everyone.

Scaredycat reflection

Scaredycat reflection

Blubaugh’s “Scaredycat” is a film that focuses upon fear and how it can negatively affect one’s life. It shows that most fears are irrational. The film begins by showing Blubaugh’s daily routine and the things that he does because of his fears, such as aligning things to match corners and edges. I enjoyed watching the “Scaredycat” film it contains educational material in a mixed format. Blubaugh overcomes many of his fears after he is attacked by muggers. I liked that Blubaugh moved on after what happened to him.  In the end of the film, I liked when Blubaugh talked with one of the attackers to show the audience how the attacker’s life has been negatively affected since the attack. After I heard that conversation, l felt bad for the attacker because one series of bad choices lead to a long time in prison. In the meantime, I understood that Blubaugh was seriously hurt and mentally affected by the attack. Blubaugh stated, “I want you to stay in prison.”
